HMSC is a resource for Visiting Scientists and Marine Science Students, combining expertise, location and infrastructure, including a world-class seawater system, experimental wet labs, OSU’s Guin Library and a weekly seminar series. Marine Studies Initiative
The mission of the Marine Studies Initiative (MSI) is to create a healthy future for our ocean and the planet through transdisciplinary research and teaching that emphasizes collaboration, experiential learning, engagement with society and problem solving.

A new model, MSI's goal is to build upon the excellent marine programs across OSU and the state, including those in Corvallis, Newport and along the Oregon coast, by amplifying existing efforts and catalyzing new opportunities.
